I was born and raised in Southern Utah (St. George), I did part of my undergraduate at Utah Valley University in Orem prior to transferring to Dixie State University in St. George where I completed my degree in Nursing! I completed my Graduate School at Chamberlain University based out of Chicago.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 11 years old. I was not a “good” diabetic, having a high A1C (14+) throughout my teenage years. I found that I really enjoyed teaching friends, family, and others about diabetes, and how I could normalize it in my community. This is why I am so passionate about not just diabetes but any chronic illness, I want to help patients get back to normal life and give them the assurance that their disease does not control their life!
My favorite color is Green, we had our first son pass away stillborn, and his birthstone is peridot, which is green, so my wife and I LOVE green!
My favorite meal is a homemade Meat Pie, it is a flaky homemade crust with minced ground beef and other ingredients. The dish is popular in Australia and New Zealand, but my family has been making a form of it for generations!
My favorite vacation spot is the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We went a few years ago and it was a blast!
I am a BYU fan, a Denver Broncos fan, and a Utah Jazz fan! I love sports and stay up to date regularly with all of the major leagues, and will talk about it with anyone!
Sports are my favorite activity. Playing golf, basketball, pickleball, and going fishing are some of my favorites! We also love to garden, my family is from a small town near Bryce Canyon, and every year, we help my grandparents plant the huge garden and maintain it through the growing and harvesting seasons.
Patients can count on me to always listen and clearly explain our goal during treatment. I never want a patient to leave the clinic with more questions than answers. I understand that we use big and confusing words in endocrinology, but I feel one of my biggest strengths as a provider is being able to communicate in a way that patients will understand and feel confident in their care.
